FAQ

With this being the first park of it's kind in Australia, we are asked a lot of questions - you might find the answer to yours below!

  • IS IT REAL SNOW?
  • No, we are using a product called Neveplast.

Neveplast has revolutionised the sector of dry ski slopes and has been proudly brought to you at Gold Coast Snow Park.

While there is no actual snow, the concept of the ‘snow’ park is to bring snow based activities to the Gold Coast. We in no way are competing with, or replacing the snowfields of Australia, but enhancing them by allowing people to hone their skills, have some fun, or ski/board for the first time in between actual snow visits.

  • DOES IT HURT IF YOU FALL ON NEVEPLAST?
  • It doesn’t hurt any more than falling on natural snow.

While long pants and sleeves are advised for anyone that is concerned about falling at high speeds, Neveplast is actually very safe and has not had any injuries from the material itself.

Many of the slopes in the UK use either Dentex or Snowflex, both are quite abrasive to both gear and skin causing some pretty bad carpet burns and even breaking fingers. During summer in Italy, most users wear shorts and short sleeves on Neveplast and while there may be some bruising from a fall, the material doesn’t actually break the skin so any discomfort is only minor.

  • WHY NOT BUILD AN INDOOR SKI SLOPE?
  • We eventually plan on having an indoor slope to give people a bit more of a feel for the real thing, but in all our research over the last three years we found that it would be very costly to run.

The slope in Dubai is so successful because it relies on the huge numbers of European and North American expats that will do anything for their snow fix.

The Gold Coast on the other hand is more known for its amazing weather and scenery so we realised that taking advantage of this would work much better than being indoors in a giant fridge!

  • WHAT RESOURCES DOES THE PARK NEED TO RUN?
  • One of the huge advantages of Neveplast is that it doesn’t require electricity, gas or water to operate. Obviously, we will have elements that run on electricity such as ski carpets and lighting etc, but the surface itself does not need to be kept cold or frozen, keeping the running costs low and park fees affordable.

  • WHEN WILL BE THE PARK BE OPEN?
  • The Mini Park is currently open and ready for you to enjoy, so come on down and support us in our plans to build the primary park!

For the primary park, we’ll keep you in the loop on our social channels, so please subscribe on Facebook and Instagram

  • WHO IS FUNDING THE PARK?
  • Snow Parks Australia currently have funding to get the first stage of the park up and running. The Main Park is quite a large venture and we are needing all the support we can muster. Come on down to the Mini Park, follow us on Facebook or Instagram and let us know how keen you are to have the world’s only outdoor Snow Park right here on the Gold Coast.

  • WILL THE PARK EXPAND AS IT GETS BUSIER?
  • Definitely, the current set up requires 10 acres of land which is why we are looking at an area that is 20+ acres to allow us future expansion.

Once the park is up and running and well established we hope to expand as much as possible.

  • CAN I USE MY OWN GEAR?
  • Absolutely! Actually, we recommend that you do use your own gear if you already own some, as you will be used to the feel of it.

You will, however, need to remove any winter wax prior to riding or skiing on Neveplast.

Of course, if you are a beginner or just wanting a fun day out, the Main Park will feature a rental and retail store with everything you need. The Mini Park does not have rental, however, and you are required to bring your own gear unless you are tubing.

  • WILL YOU CATER FOR PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES TO TRAIN AT THE PARK?
  • That is the eventual plan. We will be working with the OWI and SSA so that some of the slopes meet the needs of winter athletes to train on. But we will have a wide variety of slopes to cater for complete beginners, tube riders and even body riders as well as the experts and athletes.

  • IS IT FOR SNOWBOARDERS TOO, OR ONLY SKIERS?
  • The terrain park, air bag jump and water ramp will provide perfect slopes for boarders to do pretty much anything they want! The Neveplast slopes currently in Europe are used by ski and board athletes to practice on during the warmer months, so while we never intend to replace the snow, all skill levels will find a use of the slopes.
